Here is a bootleg CD of a David Bowie’sconcert in New York in 1976, from “Station To Station” world tour whichfollowed an album with same title. I bought this CD about 20 years ago, I was17 or 18 years old and I dreamed of traveling and living in different placeslike “station to station”. Later I found that Bowie said the station is for theway of the cross, not for transportation.

Bowie said in another interview that thealbum “Station To Station” was too commercial and he made the performances inthe tour were much more heavy and rough opposite from the songs of the album. Soundquality of the bootleg CD is not so good but it is good for the raw power. Infact, an official CD with re-mastered tracks of the concert was finally releasedin 2010 and I still prefer the bootleg.

I am playing the bootleg CD at megavolumeand thinking that I was also too commercial and out of anger and brutality. AndI do feel I am leaving from a station to the next place to bear my cross.

ここにDavid Bowieの１９７６年のアルバム「Station To Station」発売後に行われた世界ツアーのNew York公演を収録した海賊盤CDがある。手に入れたのは二十年程前、１７歳か１８歳の頃、そして「駅から駅」さながらに様々な場所を旅し暮らすことを夢見ていた。その後Bowieが、Stationは交通機関の駅ではなく、キリストの受難と死を瞑想するために十字架の道にある「留（りゅう）」を指すものであると語っていたことを知った。

他のインタビューでBowieは、アルバム「Station To Station」が商業的なものになりすぎたと語り、その後のツアーにおける演奏や歌唱は、アルバム収録曲と比べ反対により重く荒々しいものとなった。海賊版CDの音質はあまり良くないが、だからこそそうした生々しい力が伝わってくる。事実、同公演は2010になってついにリマスター公式盤が発売されたが、私は未だに海賊版の方を気にいっている。

海賊盤CDを大音量でかけながら、私も商業的になりすぎ怒りと粗暴が失われていたと思う。そして今、受難に耐えるべく次の場所に向かうために留を離れていることを実感している。

Reminiscent voices

“For oblivion after your birthday… Sincerely, G”
I received a small box from G, a friend in Hong Kong. There was a small pill bottle inside. The curious liquid tranquilizer smelled like burnt bones, looked like condensed rain cloud and tasted like rotted goat milk. It was suggested that I should take a tea spoon of the medicine before sleep. In the morning after the first trial I woke up and continued listening to who I met in a dream. Y, my father and S… I could hear their voices clearly as they were lying next to me, and everyone was much talkative than I know. Y’s voice was attractive again as same as I was with her 20 years ago and she said she still wears a perfume “Nina”. My father came up and told me a story of his memories with his pet deer in his teenage life in Manchuria. Suddenly S’s merry laughing voice appeared, she explained my father and me that I am too strict to myself and need a family to be with in my life. I wished I were with a small cat right at the moment then I heard crying of a cat for a long time. Unfortunately I did not have a language skill to understand what it said. The sky was blue and sunny beyond the window and I remembered I was living with the cat when I was 6 years old.

In the second morning I spent time with an American porn star that was killed in a traffic accident, a president of an elevator company, an ash tray seller and a she-male dancer. They asked me to go out together to my favorite bootleg CD shop in Fukuoka city. What cheerful idiots! Here came dogs I used to have and the party became much more loud and noisy. The lovely bitches of my own were too happy to meet me again and could not help barking and squirting. I was staring at dim light beams on the wall and my palm while I was hearing their voices. I found I have got internal bleeding in my palm almost disappeared. I also have got my eyes tired from the moonlit brightness of the room even it was still with the darkness of the night, and I felt my skin was so sensitive with breeze from windows.

In the night of the third trial, I gazed at the gray liquid on a silver tea spoon. Because of what I experienced in the last two days I thought this contained some heavy metal or a new type virus similar to rabies. I swallowed the pretty poison and fell into asleep. In the dream I was talking to L and eloquent of classical music I sometimes listen in my dreams and how they were marvelous. I am not so familiar to the kind of music and do not have knowledge but I was sure the music were completely original made inside of me. I woke up and it was L’s turn to talk to me, right next to me in the dark bed room. I was listening to L’s talking in his low voice about absolute zero temperature and a chocolate contains dry hawthorn. L asked me if I ever tried a floating (isolation) tank or not, and he hinted that the time in a bath tab with no light was my primal experience of it. I wanted to take another tea spoon of the tranquilizer and my palm crawled around my bed. It finally reached the tea spoon but the bottle. I grabbed the tea spoon and tried to remember people I heard the voices in order. I was still in bed and tranquilized in the day time, and the potion vanished. I thought one of the voices took it away and G was not longer in Hong Kong. G must have been a missing person again as usual.

香港のGから小さな包みが届いた。中には一本の小さな薬瓶。その珍妙な液体の精神安定剤は、焼けた骨のような臭い、濃縮した雨雲のような見た目に腐った山羊乳のような味がした。眠る前にティースプーン一杯分を服用とのこと。最初の一服を試した後の朝、目が覚めても夢の中で会った者達の声を聴き続けていた。Yに父にS・・・まるで隣に横たわっているかのように彼らの声は鮮明で、私が知っているよりもさらにおしゃべりだった。Yの声は、二十年前に一緒にいた頃と同じように官能的で、未だに香水はNinaを使い続けていると。父がやってきて、十代の頃に満州で暮らしていた時に飼っていた鹿の思い出を話してくれた。いきなりSの明るい声のお出まし、私が自分に厳し過ぎるのだから生涯を共に暮らす家族を持つべきだと父と私に告げた。こんな時に猫が一緒にいてくれたらと願ったら、それから長い間猫の鳴き声を聴いた。生憎と言語能力に乏しいので、何を言っているのかわからずじまい。窓の外は晴れた青空、そういえば六歳の時にこの猫と一緒に暮らしていた記憶を思いだした。

二度目の朝は、交通事故で死んだアメリカのポルノ女優、エレベーター会社の社長、灰皿屋にシーメールの踊り子と時間を共にした。みんな揃って、福岡にある私の好きな海賊版CD屋に繰り出そうと誘いだす。お調子者のバカどもが！そこに昔飼っていた犬達がやってきて、一団はさらにけたたましくなった。愛おしい私の雌犬達は、私に会えた喜びで咆哮と失禁を抑えられない。そんな声を聴いている間、壁に映るほのかな光の線と手のひらを眺めていた。その手のひらに広がっていた内出血の跡がほとんど消えているのに気がついた。まだ夜の闇に包まれていると言うのに、私の眼は部屋の月明かりの薄暗さに疲れを感じ、肌も窓からの風に敏感になっていた。

三度目の夜、銀のティースプーンに垂らした灰色の液体を凝視した。二日に渡って体験したことを基に、この液体には何かしらの重金属または狂犬病に似た新種の病原菌が混入されているのではないかと考えた。そのイケナイお薬を飲みこんで眠りに落ちた。夢の中で、私はLに時々夢の中で聴くクラッシック音楽についていかにそれが驚嘆に値するかを雄弁に語っていた。そちらの方の音楽にそこまで馴染みがあるわけでも造詣が深いわけでもないが、私が聴いたその曲は間違いなく私の中で作られたものであることには確信を持っていた。目が覚めると今度はLが話し始める番、暗い寝室にいる私の真横で。Lの低い声が話す絶対零度と干したサンザシ入りのチョコレートについて耳を傾けていた。今までにフローティング（アイソレーション）・タンクを試したことがあるかと問われ、あの時お前が明りのない浴槽にいたのが原体験だったのだとほのめかされた。精神安定剤をもう一服したいと、手のひらがベッドを這いずり回る。何とかティースプーンを探り当てたものの、瓶はなかった。ティースプーンを握りしめ、声を聴いた順番に出演者達を思い出していった。そのまま日中もベッドで静かにしていたが、薬は消え失せてしまった。どれかの声が持っていってしまったのだろう、そしてGはもう香港にいないだろうと思った。Gはいつものように行方不明者になっているはずだから。

"Vice Blood"

Vice was sleeping in a basket. The tiny soft-charcoal colored finch was sold to a man by a black-market broker. The man brought Vice to his place and started feeding fresh eggs to the baby creature. When he prepared the feed he always cut his finger with a sharp knife and mix blood in it. After Vice became mature enough to fly, he let vice out from a cage and live in his bedroom every day. He liked the room vaguely smelled of feathers and excrement which was like liquid incense. It was certain that he was scared of sleeping lately even he liked very thoughtful moments after waking up. He kept dreaming interesting and well but after woke up he sometimes thought of past in real life and it made him depressed. So that he did not want to sleep and encounter such moment. The aroma of the bed room helped him being content and insomnia.

In addition to flying practice, Vice was given opportunities of feeding itself. At first the man obtained a new-born canary from a pet shop. A previous owner put the 2 week old bird on her palm, the bird suddenly tried to fly but failed. It fell on to floor and hit its head hard. She was not interested in the canary with brain contusion and paid extra to the pet shop to have another mature one as exchange. The defective canary was twitching and not able to walk normally. In the cage for training Vice repeated flying on and leaving from the nonresistant animal, then its sharp and hard beak got bloody. Secondly, he left a small egg in a cage and Vice spent a long time to break the shell. Later, he also fed some mouse (both alive and defrosted) but he found that Vice eats only bird blood and eggs.

Vice was a successful experience of aviculture of rare species. The man thought Vice was well friendly to him any time. Vice liked to perch on his finger, make it wounded by its strong beak and suck blood directly. It was the only exceptional of what Vice ate. Another remarkable fact was that Vice protected and warmed an unfertilized egg. Therefore, according to some skeptical results of inprinting, it was possible that Vice could identify her symbiont and targets. This optimistic and unscientific research and results were good enough for the end of this stage of his preparation, but he had no relationship in ornithological studies and movement to protect gems of bird life.

The man put Vice in a cage most of the time with a lot of feed and she produced much rich excretion. He named this water soluble paint “Vice Blood” with unknown dark puce color, and spent 7 month to draw an abstract picture. Vice’s feathers were also mixed and used for stereoscopic effect and feeling of vitality. “Vapor Void”, the picture with author’s blood signature was put in the basket and left in the empty bedroom, as same as Vice was sleeping there before.

Viceは籠の中で眠っていた。小さな柔炭色のフィンチは、闇ブローカーを通じて男の手に渡った。男はViceを家に持ち帰り、新鮮な卵をその幼い動物に与え始めた。男は餌を準備するときに、必ず鋭利なナイフで指を切って血を混ぜた。やがてViceが飛ぶのに十分なほど成長すると、男はViceを鳥籠から放ち寝室でいつでも暮らすようにさせた。男は部屋にかすかに漂う羽毛と、液体のお香のような排泄物の匂いが好きだった。たとえ目覚めの後に思慮深い一時が訪れるにしても、近頃男は明確に眠ることに怯えていた。面白くて良い夢を見続けているのだが、時々目覚めた後に現実世界での過去を思い出し憂鬱になった。そういう事情で男は眠りたくも、またそんな時間に対峙したくもなかった。寝室の匂いは、男が安らかにそして不眠でいることに役立っていた。

飛行練習に並行して、Viceは自身で餌を得る機会を与えられた。男はその手始めに、ペットショップで生れて間もないカナリアを手に入れた。前の飼い主が生後二週間のそのカナリアを手のひらに乗せたら、カナリアはいきなり飛ぼうとして失敗した。床に落ちて頭部を強く打った。女は脳挫傷を負ったカナリアに興味をなくし、ペットショップに追加分を支払って別の成長したカナリアを手に入れた。欠陥商品のカナリアは、痙攣を続け歩くことすらままならなかった。鳥籠の中での練習で、Viceはその無抵抗な動物の上に舞い降りたり離れたりを繰り返し、そのうちに鋭く硬い嘴を血に染めた。続いて男は小さな卵を鳥籠の中に置くと、Viceは長い時間をかけて殻を割った。後に男はネズミ（生きているのと解凍したもの両方）を与えてみたが、Viceは鳥類の血液と卵のみを食べることがわかった。

Viceは、鳥類の希少種における飼育の成功例でもあった。男は、いつでもViceがとてもなついているように思っていた。Viceは男の指にとまり、その強力な嘴で傷をつけ、直接血を吸うのが好きだった。これはViceが食べる物の唯一の例外だった。もう一つの注目すべき事実は、Viceが無性卵を守りながら温めていたことだ。このような、疑わしくもある「刷り込み」の結果からして、Viceは共生者と獲物の識別ができていたと言えた。この浅はかで非科学的な研究と結果は、男による準備期間の終わりを告げるのに十分であり、しかしながら男は鳥類の学術研究にも希少種の保護活動にもまったく無縁であった。

男はViceを鳥籠の中に長時間入れておくようになり、Viceは上質の排泄物を多量に出した。男は、見たこともない暗蚤色をしたその水溶性の絵の具を「Vice Blood」と命名し、七か月かけて一枚の抽象画を描き上げた。Viceの羽毛も立体感と生命感を出すために混ぜて用いられている。作者の血の署名が入ったその作品「Vapor Void」は、籠の中に入れられ、何も残っていない寝室に置かれていた。かつてViceがそこで眠っていたように。

Alone in the mirrors

There is a mirror which shows cold fire in it. An indigo flame burns sunshine out. What a bloodless bloodlust.

There is a mirror which shows a disappeared actress in it. She applied deadly poisonous acid to her face and mistakenly damaged it fatally. Immature ones cannot notice her hidden fatherly affection.

There is a mirror which shows a tiny crab in it. The innocent crab plays in sanctuary. It meets the real world with its sudden crying.

There is a mirror which shows a large bath tab in it. A piece of cherry tree fossil is floating on warm water. It is a symbol of the guilt for dreaming.

There is a mirror which shows an eccentric tiger in it. He roars so loud and eats an old snake. His absolute love protects and hurts all.

There is a mirror which shows another mirror in it. The two mirrors provoke emotions and merged in everlasting and endless reflections. It is the proof of reason for existence of the mirrors.

And, there I am, alone in the mirrors.

冷たい炎を映す鏡がある。藍色の激情が太陽の光を燃やす。なんという冷血な流血への欲望。

失踪した女優を映す鏡がある。顔に劇薬を用いたが、誤って致命的な損傷を負ってしまった。幼稚な人間には、彼女の隠された父性愛など気がつくはずもない。

小さな蟹を映す鏡がある。禁猟区で戯れる無邪気な蟹。自分の突然の泣き声で現実世界に直面する。

大きな浴槽を映す鏡がある。暖かいお湯に浮かぶ桜の樹の化石。それは夢見ることの罪の象徴。

奇特な虎を映す鏡がある。大きく吼え、老いた蛇を喰らう。その絶対的な愛はすべてを守り傷つける。

もう一つの鏡を映す鏡がある。二つの鏡は感情を誘発させ、永遠に続く終わりのない反射の中で交じり合う。それはその鏡の存在理由の証明。

そして私はいる、独り鏡の中に。

Waterplay therapy

It is not sure if there is waterplay therapy acknowledged and treated same as sandplay therapy in the world. Toys on the sand look active and things in the water act like being buried at sea. So I have put my own things into my favorite glass – everything was not clean. There were tea-stained tea spoon, rose leaves, black currant but they were not chosen and got sunken in the glass. I do not make any diagnoses by myself. Moreover, there are no therapist / people who think about it around me.

世の中にある箱庭（砂遊び）療法と同等に認知され用いられている箱池（水遊び）療法なるものが存在するかどうか、定かではない。砂の上のおもちゃは生きているかのように見え、水の中の物は水葬されたように振る舞う。そして私は自分の持ち物を好きなグラスに入れた－どれもきれいではなかったが。茶渋にまみれたティースプーン、薔薇の花弁、クロフサスグリの実もあったが、選ばれもグラスの中に沈まされもしなかった。私は自分自身で診断をくださない。それ以上に、これについて考える療法士も人々も私の周りにはいない。

Although he did not remember what he has dreamed, he had a feeling of lack. He woke up with sleepy head, turned the pages of his “dream – diary” and there was nothing to write down. Took a shower, dried his spiky short hair, opened a makeup box and then he was a she. He was walking around an X-rated movie theater as his work on alternate days. Taxi drivers saw her on the street and were afraid they encountered the angel of death at dusk.

On a shabby carpet in a gloomy tiny room, a fat lad was kissed roughly by her and felt like he has got his face sandpapered. “Are you a man?” She only smiled and kept her mouth barely opened in the shades of her long brown hair. He stopped thinking and asking what will happen next.

“Do I live free? Hmm, People want to live free like a bird but I know it is totally nonsense. If I were a bird I always would have to feel my body temperature, eat ugly worms and travel a lot… so disgusting! I would rather be a butterfly with big and grace wings… eating sweet flower syrup and moving to places with lights all the time. We do not have to think how to live free if we are so.”

It was smoky in a taxi. He noticed that the taxi driver was silently laughing at him. He remembered that his grandfather taught that a butterfly lost its legs is no longer diurnal. He was not interested in what she lost but wanted to lick again her very thin rib bones like nervule. He was still tasting her floury skin in his mouth.

彼は夢で見たことを覚えていなかったが、何かが欠落していると感じた。ぼんやりしたまま目を覚まし、夢日記帳を開いてはみたが、そこに書くことは何もなかった。シャワーを浴び、とげとげしい髪を乾かし、化粧箱を開けて、彼は彼女になった。隔日の仕事の仕事として、いつも通りポルノ映画館の周りをぶらつく。タクシーの運転手たちは、通りに立つ彼女を見て、夕暮れ時に疫病神に会ったような気持ちになった。

小さく薄暗い部屋のボロボロの絨毯の上、太った若者が彼女に激しく口を吸われ、自分の顔がサンドペーパーで削られたように感じた。「もしかして、男？」彼女は只薄笑いを浮かべ、長く茶色い髪の陰でうっすらと口を開いて見せた。彼は、これから何が起きるのかと考えることも聞いてみることもやめてしまった。

「自由に生きてるかですって？そうね、よく鳥のように自由に生きたいなんて言うけど、そんなの冗談じゃないわよ。わたしが鳥だったらいつも自分の体温を意識して、醜いムシを食べて、いつでもあちこちを飛び回って・・・ああ気色悪い！どうせなら大きくて優雅な翅の蝶になるわ・・・甘い花の蜜を吸って、いつでも明るいところから明るいところへ。自由に生きていれば、自由に生きることなんて考えたりしないわよ。」

タクシーの中は煙たかった。運転手が息を殺して彼を嘲笑っているのがわかる。彼の祖父が、脚を失くした蝶はもう昼行性ではいられなくなると言っていたのを思い出した。彼女が何を失くしたかなんてどうでもよかったが、翅脈のような彼女の肋骨をまた舐めたいと思った。彼は口の中で、彼女の粉っぽい皮膚をまだ味わっていた。

"Lunatic Stage"

In the late night, I listen to the voice of the actors on a “Lunatic Stage”. In the time of awakening, I watch the plays of the actors in my dream. I am lack of equilibrium but I feel I got my sense of smell recovered a little. I am thinking of the faces of others.

夜遅く、「lunatic stage」の役者たちの声を聴く。目覚めの時、夢の中の役者達が演じる様を観る。感情が均衡していないが、自分の嗅覚が少し回復してきたのがわかった。他人の顔についての考え。

Missing link

Here in my blog I did not want to write about anything happened in Japan while I was there. My deep thoughts are aimed on reality and fiction, listening to chill out music and Iggy Pop and I have been talkative but silent in mind… is it an approach to myself like dissociative identity disorder? The missing link between those extreme opposites is buried in words – as I write. Write, write, write… that is the other side of me.

日本にいる間、このブログに現地で起こったことをあれこれと書き記すことはしたくなかった。深い思慮は現実と虚構に向かい、チルアウトミュージックとIggy Popを聴き、あれこれと口を開くが内心では沈黙している・・・これは解離性同一性障害のような自身への接触なのだろうか？これらの対極的な物事の間にある「失われた鎖」は、「自身が書き連ねる」言葉に埋葬されている。書いて、書いて、書いて・・・それがもう一つの自分。

Vienna - a box

I put myself in a box called Vienna. Different fresh air and city life helped casting off my skin. It is natural that it takes time to make scales harder by drying. Then I captured different races, opera, and moonlight. I sneaked out from the box with some wounds and new body.

I am in a box called Vilnius now and I feel I have venomous fangs strengthened but some things lack in my mind – I have been thinking of my senses proper to my own instincts.

Viennaという箱の中に自分を入れてみた。異なった新鮮な空気が脱皮を促した。鱗が乾燥によって硬くなるのに時間がかかるのは自然なこと。そして異なった人種、オペラと月光を捕食した。いくつかの傷を負いながらも、新しい身体で箱から抜け出した。

今はVilniusという箱の中にいて、毒牙は強化されたように思うが、精神に何かが足りない‐自身の本能に特有の感覚について考えている。

No music, no smell and no lights in the rooms. Colours and lights of the sky from opened windows. I took photos of the scene beyond the windows and gave it up immediately. I know it is useless to see the colours in photos because I can see the real with my eyes.

部屋には何の音楽も匂いも光もない。開け放った窓からの空の色と光。写真を撮ってはみたものの、すぐに止めてしまった。実物をこの目で見られるのに写真でその色を見ようなんてばかばかしいからだ。

Close the all windows and doors, shut out cold air and sound of rain. Pale sky shines on the corpses of lodgers by the window, like a new powder layer of their skin. I had many lodgers through the windows and doors in summer – butterfly, bee, mosquito, moth, lady bug, fly, dragonfly and many other winged bugs – and some of them left their bodies here. Touching the corpses with my fingers and I do not feel their body heat. Did they have it when they were alive?

I am not a “settled” person in a certain place so I keep moving to different places like butterflies follow brighter points. The lodgers have gone and I will be gone, too. It is time to think of new life and breaking away from this presence.

すべての窓と扉を閉めて、冷たい空気と雨音を遮断する。血の気の失せた空が、新しい鱗粉の層のように窓辺で間借人達の遺骸に映える。夏の間この窓と扉を通じてたくさんの間借人達がやってきた‐蝶、蜂、蚊、蛾、天道虫、蝿、蜻蛉、たくさんの翅虫達‐幾人かは体を残していった。指で遺骸を触っても体温を感じない。彼らが生きていたときもそうだったのだろうか？

私は一ヶ所に「定住」する人間ではないので、蝶が明るいところを目指して飛ぶように違う場所に移り続ける。間借人達のように、私もいずれ去るだろう。新しい生活とここに存在することからの離脱を考えている。

Back in snow covered Vilnius. I am listening to live recording tracks of David Bowie in 1995 with Nine Inch Nails. I bought many CDs and DVDs in Tokyo and they are like tranquilizers for me. I want to refuse linguistical communication for a while.

It is decided that I publish my first photo book April. I have been thinking about the title of it – I think I have nearly found it with clues.

雪のヴィルニスに帰ってきた。Nine Inch Nailsと共演したDavid Bowieの１９９５年のライブ音源を聴いている。東京ではたくさんのCDとDVDを購入したが、どれも精神安定剤みたいなものだ。しばらくの間は言語学的な意思疎通を謝絶したい。

I found a plastic bag in a taxi on the wayy home. There were many flyers of parties and club events and the previous passengers were also on the way home I thought.

The speed of the taxi was in sync with memories of many streets and areas. It is nice that I still feel familiar to my home town, Tokyo.

帰宅するタクシーの中でヴィニール袋を見つけた。中にはたくさんのパーティーやイヴェントのチラシが入っていたので、前の乗客も同じように帰路についていたのだろう。

In a TV studio

Life surrounded by TV cameras and equipments - I had about 6 years of such life at a broadcasting center. I worked for news, sports and documentaries, not in studios. Sometimes I went to see how other staff work in TV studios and I prefered live works outside.

I was invited to LNK TV for interview, went there in rain - remembered the hard times at working in bad weathers and typhoons. I was the one who was recored by camera, not the who records. Digitalized materials were quickly saved in their main server - no more betacam tapes. The interview will be broadcasted on December 19th at 4pm.

テレビカメラと機材に囲まれた生活‐かつてテレビ局で六年近くもそんな日々を送っていた。ニュース、スポーツ、ドキュメンタリーが主だったので、スタジオにはいなかった。ときどき他のスタッフがスタジオでどんな仕事をしているのかを見に行ったが、屋外での現場撮影の方がいいと思った。

インタビューのためLNKテレビに招かれて、雨の中向かった‐悪天候や台風の中できつい仕事をしたことを思い出しながら。自分がカメラに録られる方で、録る方ではなかった。デジタル素材はすぐにメインサーバーに記録される‐もうベータカムテープは使われていない。インタビューは来月１９日の午後４時から放送されるらしい。

Last night I was given a copy of Aurelija Stankute’s book fresh from the press. I worked for the poet for her portrait and she chose my photo for the book cover too. I would like to know how readers think about the combination of our collaborated book.

I woke up very early in the morning, went to the balcony for fresh cold air and I got powder snow melt in a cup of hot black tea. It is too early to wake tropical fish up in an aquarium.

昨夜、刷り上がったばかりだというAurelija Stankuteの本をもらった。この詩人の肖像写真を撮り、彼女は私の写真も表紙に選んだ。読者が我々の共同作品をどう思うか知りたい。

やけに朝早く目が覚めてバルコニーに新鮮な冷たい空気を吸いに行くと、熱い紅茶に粉雪が溶けた。水槽の熱帯魚を起こすにはまだ早い。

The attendees of the fourth annual festival of the martial arts in Lithuania were mix of amateur/professional and several martial arts. Muay Thai, grappling, aikido, self-defence etc. – each martial art has unique technique and theory and the attendees tried unexperienced and different ways at seminars.

The reasons I practice Muay Thai (kick boxing) are all connected to my work. I wonder what martial art fighters can learn from photography and I think the methods of adjust the timing and distance against targets, and direct eyes on important things with quickness will work. Hmm, I understand why I give a martial and penetrating glance to target when I take photos.

リトアニア・マーシャルアーツ・フェスティバルの参加者は、プロとアマ、様々な格闘技のごった煮。ムエタイ、グラップリング、合気道、護身術など‐どの格闘技にも独特の技術を理論があり、参加者は講習で未経験や異なったやり方を試していた。

私がムエタイ（キックボクシング）をやっているのは、すべて仕事につながるからである。格闘家が写真から学べるとすれば、対象との間合いと距離の図り方と瞬時に重要なものに目を向けることだと考える。なるほど、撮影のときに私が好戦的で鋭い目つきをしているのも理解できる。

I found his business cards in a secondhand book “Venus in Furs” by Leopold Ritter von Sacher-Masoch long time ago. Only the fact of accidental encounter keeps my relationship with him even the book already has gone.

It was dying on the road, picked up by my hands and placed in a crease of a paper envelope. Its wings will be used as a bookmark in a secondhand book “Secret Rendezvous” by Kobo Abe. I do not care where the wings will go.

When a man loves a cake

My friend, a gentleman in Kaunas took me to a newly opened cake shop. Another friend, a lady joined us and we had very nice time with very very delicious chocolate and cherry cake in strong wind and rain.

I went to Kaunas again and bought a whole piece of the cake. The 15cm cake is mine, only for me - I wished so. It is too big to finish by myself for sure so I served it to some other ladies. "When a man loves a cake, he must not forget that women comes around like bees flit from flower to flower."

友人の、紳士がカウナスに新しくできたケーキ屋につれて行ってくれた。そこに別の友人、淑女が合流してとてもとても美味しいチョコレートとさくらんぼのケーキを強風と雨の中で楽しんだ。

再びカウナスに行き、そのケーキを丸ごと一個買った。１５ｃｍのケーキは自分のもの、自分だけのもの、と願っていたのだが。一人で食べきるにはさすがに大きすぎたので、他の女性たちにも分けてあげた。「男がケーキに狂うとき、花と戯れる蜂のごとく女達が現れる。」

I have started an exhibition at Vilnius City Office from today. We had many guests and mayor of Vilnius attended the opening celemony. We are planning a tour of this photo exhibition in Lithuania and next place would be Kaunas.

I have been so sick for a long time and finally went to a doctor. Doctor's questions, blood test and X-ray. I am with a diagnosis of viral bronchitis.
The clinic is private and cannot cover all medical costs by insurance so that I had pay alot but everything was done in 90 min and they gave me 2 nice pictures of my special self-portrait.
X-ray technician are absolutely very strict with compositions and positions of patients. I hope to have such dignity and authority to my models.
随分と長い間病んでいたので、ようやく病院に。問診、レントゲン撮影、血液検査。診断結果はウィルス性気管支炎。
診療所は一般の所なので保険ですべての治療費を賄うことができないため、結構な金額を払ったが９０分ですべてが終わり、特別なセルフポートレイトを二枚くれた。
レントゲン技師は、絶対的に構図と患者の位置に厳しい。あのような威厳と権力を自分の撮影対象にも持ちたいものだ。

It was so sunny and warm when I visited the daily activity center for disabled people in Kretinga. I made photos in black and white like the other photos of the last update.
It is raining so hard now and it is comfortable with less colors.
Kretingaの障害者デイセンターを訪れた時は、晴天で暖かかった。前回の写真同様、白黒にしてみる。

Joy of failures

A new student of my photo class was an absolute beginner and active to take photos of creatures in the yard behind my apartment. A boy who played with grasses and dug ground and caught worms, and some cats, they were all good model for the student practice and I taught her that she always had better carry small bags of sweets and cat foods as fee (bribe).
I have had a request of attend my photo class from her when I was in Tokyo and checked some text books of “guide to digital camera photography” published in Japan for the purpose of reference. Yes, it is the thing certainly called basic but why no books say “Look at sky at first then at ground.”? Resolving basic in various approaches means to challenge the basic. Do not repeat and believe in basics blindly or no joy of failures and success of “This one is the best shot!”.
写真教室の新しい生徒は全くの初心者で、アパート裏の中庭にいた生物を熱心に撮っていた。草で遊んだり地面を掘ってミミズを捕まえたりしていた坊やに猫達は、彼女の練習台としては優秀な被写体で、いつだってお菓子やキャットフードをお礼（袖の下）として持っておいた方がいいよ、と彼女に教授しておいた。
東京にいる時に彼女から写真教室への参加希望を受けたので、参考までに日本で発行されている「デジタルカメラ入門書」なるものに目を通してみた。そしてどの本にも「写真を楽しむには」ということがほとんど書かれていなかった。入門書ではデジタルカメラの使い方と、プロ写真家によるお手本付きでいい写真を撮る方法が教授されているのだが。
「画面を三分割するようにイメージしてみましょう。2/3を空のスペースに、下の1/3を地面にしましょう。こうすれば空と大地のバランスが取れて良く見えます。」
それは確かに基本と呼ばれることだが、「まず空を見ましょう、そして大地に目を向けましょう。」ということが、どうしてどの本にも書かれていないのだろうか。基本を様々なやり方で分析するのは、基本に疑問を投げかけることである。基本を鵜呑みにして繰り返したり信じたりしていては、失敗の楽しみも「この一枚！」という成功もない。

I had been hyperactive and super busy in the last 2 weeks in Tokyo since the last update of this blog. My days were full of appointments and I had been meeting people and traveling in Tokyo area from early morning to very late night every day. Naturally I had very good times with my friends and business related people – all of them are active and interesting ever.
Some areas of big stations have been changed while I was out of Japan for 2 years. They now look like uncharming stock farm with “modern” buildings. I could hardly find sharp-eyed even in the back street in Kabukicho. The city was not attractive at all. I enjoyed brief time as a person in the city of consumption but it was not for my desires.
Therefore, I was searching shady people to capture in my photos. I went back to my proving ground and took photos of street people. I had little feelings of tension and unsafety but not like I used to be… the place is just a proving ground and I have already been out of there.
It is quiet here in my room in Vilnius and I am looking at the pale-blue sky through windows. I think people are staying at home for Easter. I will start reading novels by Haruhiko Oyabu and thinking of violent deviance with ecstasy. I remember a dominatrix I met in Tokyo and I still not have seen tattoos on her back. We will have photo sessions when I return to Tokyo next time. The photos would make Lithuanians shocked but I do not care of such taboos. I know I also have eyes of a dominatrix for slaves.
前回の更新から二週間の間、東京で無茶苦茶に活動的で忙しかった。毎日予定が詰まっていて、朝早くから夜遅くまで東京地区内を移動して人に会っていた。ごく当たり前に友人や仕事関係の人々と素晴らしい時間を過ごした。彼らはいつだって活発で面白い。
二年に渡って日本を離れている間に、いくつかの大きな駅周辺は様変わりしていた。「今どきの」建物を配した全く面白みのない牧畜農場に見える。街を歩いても、歌舞伎町の裏通りですら眼光の鋭い奴にお目にかかれなかった。
そんなわけで写真を撮るのに影のある人間を探した。かつての修行の場に戻って路上生活者を撮影した。少し緊張と危険を感じたが、以前の自分ほどではなかった。所詮は修行の場でしかなく、私はとっくの昔にそこからいなくなっている。
Vilniusの自分の部屋は静かで、窓越しに薄青い空を眺めている。人々は復活祭のために家にいるのだろう。大藪春彦の小説を読んで、快楽を伴う暴力的行為について考えてみよう。東京で会った（ＳＭの）女王を思い出すが、彼女の背中の彫り物にはまだお目にかかっていない。今度東京に帰ったら彼女と撮影をするだろう。リトアニア人にとってはとんでもないことかもしれないが、そんなタブーなんて知ったことか。私自身にも、奴隷に向ける女王の目があることは承知している。

A week of overhaul

I am back in Tokyo from March 17th and spent most of the time to refresh. Eating and sleeping a lot, chiropractic, dinner at friend's house, etc.
Mr. Satake, the director of hair salon "Initiate" http://www.initiate.jp/ has opend a new place in Shirokanedai and it was a good time to have a new hair cut at relaxing mood.
By the way, I have tons of books, CDs and DVDs so I also spent a long time to sort and to smuggle into Lithuania for sure.
今月１７日から東京に帰り、しばらくゆっくりしていた。たくさん食べて寝て、整体治療を受け、友人の家で名古屋風すきやきを御馳走になったり。
ビューティーサロンInitiate（http://www.initiate.jp/）の佐竹さんは、白金台で新しいお店を始められていて、ゆったりとした時間の中で髪を切ってもらいくつろいだ。

Mix fresh milk with a whisk by hand over 1 hour and it gets whipped. Put it in a big glass bottle, shut up and shake it by hand over 1 hour. The mixture is separated and butter is made.
Making homemade butter was a tough work. I spent a long time for it after dinner at a children’s home in Elektrenai. In Lithuania there are over 300 child-care institutions and approximately 5,000 children are living there. The place I stayed was also one of them and the kids there live together without their alcoholic/drug addicted parents. I joined a project to support the kids and the institutions and keep visiting them and taking photos. We will have a photo exhibition in September and it will travel several places.
When I was small, mid-teen, my father was alcoholic and he was just a miserable old man without fatherly pride and the past glory. I was sick of seeing my parents fight everyday and hopeless. One day I could not stand seeing my father’s drinking and I put a lot of salt in his glass. He smiled and drank it over. My wish to help him transformed into an urge to kill him at the moment. My family got separated and I started living alone at last. I had a fit of depression and thought of suicide every day. I understand why my father became alcoholic now but could hardly at the time when I was too young to know realities in society of grown-ups. Perhaps, my father’s action with the glass with salt was a funny theatrical performance as a former actor.
I do not want to produce the kids as a symbol of sorrow and unhappiness. What I want people to know through the project is the reality of the kids and their needs. The needs, what are they? I believe the kids are living and suffered with inefficiency and I hope adults to teach that the kids have opportunities in many ways. That is my other role in the project.
The homemade butter was very tasty but I wished it contained salt. I do not need excessive amount of salt and dramatic interpretation.

新鮮な牛乳を一時間以上、泡立て器で攪拌するとホイップ状になる。大きなガラスの容器に入れ蓋をして、これを一時間以上手で振る。混合物は分離しバターができる。
手作りバターの工程はかなりしんどい。Elektrenaiにある養護施設での夕食の後、長い時間をかけてこうしてバターを作った。リトアニアにはこのような施設が３００ヶ所以上あり、５，０００人近い子供たちが暮らしている。私が訪れた施設もその内の一つで、子供たちはアルコール・麻薬中毒の親と離れて、ここで共同生活をしている。このような子供たちと施設を支援するプロジェクトに参加し、訪問と撮影を続けている。九月には写真展を行い、その後各地を周ることになるだろう。
私が十代半ばの頃、父はアルコール依存症で、父親としての誇りも過去の栄光もない惨めな老人だった。私は毎日両親の喧嘩に疲れ、希望なんてなかった。ある日、父の飲酒を見るのを我慢できなかった私は、グラスに大量の塩をぶち込んだ。父はにっこり笑ってそれを飲み干した。その瞬間に父を助けたいという願いは殺意に変わった。結局家族はバラバラになり、私は一人で暮らし始めた。鬱に陥り、毎日死ぬことを考えていた。今になってはどうして父がアルコールに溺れたのかも理解できるが、大人の事情と現実を理解するなんて幼かった私には無理なことだ。もしかしたら、父が塩の入った酒を飲んで見せたのも、俳優だった男の冗談めいた演技だったのかもしれない。
子供たちを悲しさや不幸の象徴として演出したくない。私がプロジェクトを通じて人々に知ってもらいたいのは、子供たちの現実と彼らが必要としているものだ。必要としているもの、それは何だろう？子どもたちが自分の無力さを抱えて生きていると思うし、大人たちが子供たちにはいくらでもやれることがあるということを教えてあげられればと願う。それがこのプロジェクトにおけるもう一つの私の役だ。
手作りバターはとてもうまかったが、塩が入っていればもっとよかった。過剰な量の塩も、劇的な演出もいらない。

Valentine's day at a ball room

I attended a ball room dance party at the city hall in Vilnius on the Valentine's day as a donator of charity contribution. I had no experience of social dance and it is not strange for Japanese. The movie "Shall We Dance?" was made in Japan and I hope westerners to see the backgrounds of the story when they watch it (especially the Hollywood version with Richard Gere and Jennifer Lopez). There was a time for all participants to try simple steps, movements and change partners and I found some other people looked like begginers with fun.

I donated three of my photos and the winner of lottery was Minister of Defence of Lithuania and his wife.
I had a chance to visit the Dance Macabre for a short time after the event with the people of government and financial circles. The club was full of young gothic people and hard noiise. I took off my bow tie when I entered there - it was too formal there.
ヴァレンタインデーは、慈善事業への寄付者としてVilniusのCity Hallで行われた社交ダンスパーティーに出席。社交ダンスの経験なんてなかったが、日本人なら特におかしなことではない。映画「Shall we ダンス？」は日本で作られた映画であり、西洋人が鑑賞する際にはその背景も理解してもらいたい（特にRichard GereとJennifer Lopez主演のハリウッド版においてだ）。途中すべての人が参加して、ステップ・動き・パートナーを代えるといった簡単なダンスを行う時間があり、初心者ながら楽しんでいるほかの人たちも見かけた。

The matches for young kick boxers was organized by Lithuanian Muay Thai Union. The gym in an elementaly school was full of massive men and sound of aches and pains. The losers learned from defeat and it is the must to gain.
I hear that about 7000 people joined in demonstrations againt increase of tax on the weekend. Some turned into a mob, destroyed shops and got arrested. What a silly fight!

Yesterday morning, around 8 - It was -11C outside and I was taking photos at balcony. I have got my bones caught by the chill through night clothes. The other rooms connected to one next doors are like medical research facilities and a woman in a white coat has already started her works.
This morning, about 5:30 - I fixed toilet tank equipments AGAIN! Disassembled premetive water pressure system gave me much splash. And I was thinking of its complicated compositions.
昨日の朝、８時頃‐外気温はマイナス１１℃、バルコニーで写真を撮っていた。寝巻きを通して寒さが骨に染みた。棟続きの他の部屋は医療研究施設のようで、白衣の女性が既に仕事を始めていた。
今朝、５時３０分頃‐またもやトイレの水洗器具の修理！分解された原始的な水圧装置は、水しぶきをたっぷりとお見舞いしてくれた。そんなことをやっていながらも、そこに見える複雑な構図のことを考えていた。

We had the opening of a photo exhibition "Mitas konceptualiai - Jurgio pasakojimai" yesterday. The collaborative exhibition is for the works of 3 photographers of the dance performace and I hope audience will enjoy the different style of photography.
The "Mitas konceptualiai - Jurgio pasakojimai" project is ongoing and we will have the photo exhibition in the early of next year in Vilnius.

Unikalioje operoje į efektingą reginį buvo sujungta šiuolaikinė ir klasikinė muzika, grigališkasis giedojimas, dinamiška perkusija, šiuolaikinis šokis, oro akrobatika, šviesų ir video meno ekspresija. Pernai rudenį įvykusi premjera Kaune ir operos pristatymas Vilniaus Šv. apaštalų Pilypo ir Jokūbo bažnyčioje („Vilnius - Europos kultūros sostinė 2009 m.“ organizuojamame šviesos festivalyje „LUX “) iki šiol gyvi žiūrovų atmintyje, kaip ir noras šią operą išvysti vėl.
Pati tapusi savotišku mitu, ši opera, atlikta autentiškoje Kauno šv. There was an opening party of the group exhibition last night with many visitors. It was nice to meet other participants – a Spanish Video artist and painters from Portugal and Poland.
I have been taking photos of the nights here and will add them in my website next week. However, according to the inspirations by works of other participants, I am sure I have to complete my other works with clay and start a photo session with violinists.
昨夜たくさんの来場者と共にグループ展のオープニングパーティーが催された。スペイン人のヴィデオアーティストやポルトガルとポーランドの絵描きという、他の出展者に会えたのも良かった。
この街で夜の写真を撮り続けていて、来週にはウェブサイトに追加したい。だが、他の出展者の作品からの影響もあるが、粘土を使った作品制作も終らせ、ヴァイオリニスト達との写真撮影も始めなければいけない。

Dirty and bloody?

My temporary nest in Valencia, Spain is located in just in front of “MERCAT CENTRAL (central market)” near Xativa station. I fell into bed for late siesta… I was dreaming of days in Osaka (Japan) and Kowloon (Hong Kong). I thought Xativa area is slightly like a mixture of the towns I dreamt because of atmosphere, loud people and construction.
I had so busy days in Lithuania since the end of last month and it is in winter in Vilnius. My body has been so dull and fitting into cold weather. Lithuania is a beautiful country and I mean it is not so dirty and bloody like in Japan and Hong Kong. I wanted to come to Spain to encounter and take photos of such scenes, too.
スペイン・ヴァレンシアでの一時的な巣は、Xativaという駅近くの「MERCAT CENTRAL（中央市場）」の真正面にある。少し遅いシエスタ（昼寝）・・・大阪と香港・九龍での日々を夢見ていた。Xativa地区は雰囲気ややかましい人々、建築などが夢で見た二つの街に少し似ているからだろう。
先月末からリトアニアでとても忙しい日々を送っていたし、Vilniusの街はもう冬。自分の体がすごくだるくて、寒い季節に適合しようとしている。リトアニアは綺麗な国だが、それは日本や香港ほど汚さや血生臭さがさほど感じられないという意味だ。スペインに来たのはそういう場面に出くわして写真を撮るためでもある。

Edificios, calles, callejones, plazas… vistos a vuelo de pájaro que se entremezclan de una forma laberíntica. Coordenadas urbanísticas que forman un juego de líneas y formas geométricas cercanas a la abstracción. Donde destacan el juego de los tonos pastel, primando blancos, tierras y grises. Esta artista nacida en Polonia y licenciada en Bellas Artes ha realizado varias exposiciones en Polonia, Republica Checa, Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla, Albacete, Girona, etc. Su obra se encuentra en colecciones públicas y privadas de Polonia, España, Rep. Las pinturas de Faba desprenden una sensación de elegancia y gracia. En su abstracción sus imágenes de inflaman gracias a las capas de sus pinceles y los objetos incorporados. Sus trabajos son una muestra de imaginación en movimiento, matices de colores intensos y contornos electrizantes. Formas y esquemas llenas de espontaneidad, suaves y brillantes ondulaciones, pinceladas de pulsaciones de energía… que componen piezas llenas de ritmo y musicalidad que nos llevan a la dimensionalidad de la pintura. Enigmáticas series y repeticiones que nos invitan a un viaje de alto grado simbólico a través de formas abstractas, biológicas o astronómicas.
El sugerente punto de vista de las fotografías de este artista japonés afincado en Lituania, Kensaku Shioya, proviene de la utilización nocturna de la cámara con sensor de infrarrojos. Sus objetivos retratados son los rostros al natural de la noche en sus propios y únicos colores, que se cruzan y surgen sin ser mitigados por el poder de las luces. Sus imágenes se nutren de la oscuridad. Instantáneas de la gente que se oculta a la luz de luna, que capturan la conversación amorosa que se produce entre las formas arquitectónicas y los colores teñidos de grises. Como si de un cazador de recuerdos y sueños el objetivo de Kensaku Shioya retrata un suave y calido mundo visto en la libertad de la noche.
El artista plástico portugués Francisco Urbano presenta en esta exposición colectiva obras pertenecientes a su serie “Models”, que representan la relación entre los grandes maestros de la pintura y sus modelos a través de la historia. Bajo una tonalidad terrosa figuras esbeltas posan para ser pintadas. Musas de contornos desdibujados que se mezclan con relieves realizados con recursos extrapictóricos. Marrones, naranjas, ocres… bañan sus obras de una luz especial que nos habla de recuerdos, añoranzas y tiempos pasados. Imágenes y sombras que atraen al espectador a observar el momento íntimo que se produce en la creación artística entre el pintor y su modelo.
Fumiko Nakajima realiza obras abstractas de clara influencia oriental están compuestas por dibujos de sinuoso trazado. Una mezcla aparentemente casual donde se fusiona color y fuerza, formando composiciones armónicas de ritmos cromáticos. Trabaja principalmente la pintura y el grabado, dos técnicas unidas por el carácter simbólico de su obra, el uso del color y la necesidad expresiva. En su proceso creativo el grabado es muy importante, un juego y un conflicto entre el espacio y el tiempo. Obras de gran fuerza que van más allá de los límites de su praxis plástica creando un juego de incertidumbres formado por un conjunto de sombras, figuras y siluetas. Fumiko Nakajima ha realizado exposiciones individuales y colectivas en ciudades como Barcelona, Zaragoza o su Tokio natal.

Cold Ethyl and her icy metamorphosis

I disassembled a freezer in “Минск16”, an old-fashioned refrigerator in the kitchen. The freezing machine was covered with much ice and it was a childish fun to defrost with a blade. There was a pupa inside of the refrigerator. I took it out and put in a chipped bowl. I named the pupa “Cold Ethyl” and kept my eyes on her.
Few days later she became a mature lady and played on a plastic net covering the bowl. I hoped her not to get caught in spider web. She did not leave the “bowl room” for a long time after I removed the net. She did not like hot outside with sun light, did she?

台所にある古めかしいМинск16という名の冷蔵庫の冷凍室を分解した。冷凍機はたくさんの氷に包まれていて、刀を使って霜取りをするのは子供じみていたが面白かった。冷蔵庫の中に蛹（さなぎ）があった。取り出して欠けた丼に移した。Cold Ethylと名づけて、彼女を監視していた。
数日後、彼女は成熟した女になって、丼を覆っていたプラスチックの網で戯れていた。蜘蛛の巣に捕らえられないことを願う。網を外しても、彼女は長い時間「秘密部屋」から出ていこうとはしなかった。日光の差す暑い屋外は彼女のお気に召さなかったはず？

A designless celebration

The combination of a sweet cake and tea called "Seven Samurais" were good to start with a day without plans. I went to the Vilnius railway station with a bag of burgers. I did not feel like to go to the North so some of unknown town names in the South and East looked interesting. It was only 45 minutes to Kena, a town close to the border with Republic of Belarus.
There are no cafe, restaurants and bars but only a grocery shop. Old people were sitting on benches in front of the apartments and talking. Boys were playing cards at the entrance. Young people were riding cars and motor bikes or sitting on the road and chatting.
I just walked in the small town for 2 hours until the last train leaves. It was the day of my 35th birthday.
甘いケーキと「七人の侍」というお茶は、行き当たりばったりの一日を始めるのにちょうど良かった。ハンバーガーの入った袋を手に、Vilnius鉄道駅に向かった。北の方には行く気がしなかったので、南と西の知らない街の名前が良さそうに思えた。たった４５分でベラルーシ共和国との国境に近いKenaという街へ。
カフェもレストランもバーもなく、ただ一軒の食料品店があるだけ。老人達はアパートの外でベンチに座っておしゃべり。老人達はアパートの前にベンチに腰掛けおしゃべり。ガキは玄関先でトランプを。若い奴らは車やバイクを乗り回すか、道端に座って話しに花を咲かせていた。
最終電車までの二時間歩き回っただけ。三十五歳の誕生日はこんなものだった。

Anomalous style

The angles were limited and absolute. Artistic aproach was not required. Interior photo work should appeal designer's point of view and concepts. It is just the opposite of my style but I also like such photography.
角度は制限され絶対。芸術的手法も必要なし。内装写真にはデザイナーの視点と構想が反映されるべきである。私の写真とは正反対であるが、こういうやり方も好きだ。

I had a 1 day exhibition in Užupis yesterday and I appreciate visitors to see my photos. I would like to thank to Mr. Inoue and E.R. for their great help. I am glad I did not attack performers there who put on their costumes on my photo on the wall and had terrible performance with Japonism approach. Well they were also the part of the event but I do not have any relationship with them. I would have killed them if they damaged my photos while they were showing horrible performance.
And now, my mind is flying to next exhibition plan in September...
昨日Užupisで写真展示を行った。写真を見に来てくださった方々にお礼申し上げます。そして井上さんとE.R.の協力に感謝します。同会場で日本風の酷いパフォーマンスをやり、人の写真の上に衣装をかけていたパフォーマー達に殴りかからなくて良かった。同じイベントの参加者だったが、一切関係ありません。もしもあの愚劣なパフォーマンスの最中に写真を傷つけられていたら、間違いなく血祭りにあげていたでしょう。
そして今、心は９月の写真展示に向けて飛んでいる・・・。

Carrying, so what?

It is interesting to see jumble sale in a big market in Vilnius. I bought a pirate copy CD of “Beatmania” (a Japanese video game) at 1 Litas from a junk seller. He had a kitten in his backpack and it was not for sale like other kittens available there.
I explored in the night in Kaunas and I found a strange old woman. She was carting a big stone. It was too and tumbled off from her small cart so often.
People are carrying something for some reason and sometimes it is not better to know why.
Vilniusの大きな市場にあるガラクタ市を冷やかすのは面白い。ガラクタ屋からビートマニアの違法コピーCDを１リタス（約５０円）で買った。ガラクタ屋のバックパックには子猫が入っていたが、それはそこで買える他の子猫と違って売り物ではなかった。
夜のKaunasを歩いていたらおかしな老婆に出くわした。とても大きな石を運んでいた。大きすぎて、カートから何度も転げ落ちていた。
人々は何かしらの理由があって何かを運んでいるが、時にはその理由を知らない方がいい。

Still life with water

Rainy weekend, there were many art workshops in the center and the old town in Vilnius night and day on Saturday. I visited some of them and did not get any excitement. My mind was gray like the sky so I was on the streets to take photos. A cup of too sweet hot chocolate, an apple pie and a rainbow in the gray sky made me more withdrawn.
I have some images of still life with water – stasis, colorless, nihility. There is a photo of my dead pet fish and it is also a hint of imagination.
雨の週末、土曜日は昼夜を問わずVilniusの中心街と旧市街でたくさんのアートワークショップが催されていた。そのいくつかに足を運んでみるが、心は躍らなかった。気持ちは灰色の空みたいだったので、路上で写真を撮っていた。甘すぎるホットチョコレート、アップルパイ、灰色の空に架かった虹が余計に内向的にさせる。
水と静物のイメージがある－沈滞、無色、虚無。死んだ熱帯魚の写真があるが、これも創造の一つの手掛かり。

Exhibition of my photography class students

Students of my photography class in Kaunas finished lessons and had an exhibition of their works. They will learn more from criticism and look over their photos again. Otherwise they will have lack of progress ever. Sometimes they could not make any good result in difficult practice photo sessions so they know their current skills and abilities of their cameras.
The students can create photos freely with limits now and their exhibited works prove the results of their studies in the photography class.
カウナスでの写真教室が修了し、生徒達が作品展示を行った。批評から多くを学び、そして写真をまた見直すことだろう。そうでなければ上達することはない。難しい実践の撮影で時に生徒達は良い結果を出せずに終わったこともあったが、だからこそ現時点での自分の技量とカメラの性能を把握している。
これから生徒達は制限と共に自由に写真を撮ることができるし、展示作品がこの写真教室で学んだことを証明している。

Private space by the windowsill

I have been sick in these days and staying at home a lot. Sometimes I stand at a balcony to see outside. Although the space of the windowsill is usually occupied by fancy goods and plant pots, I found some use the space for their private use. I also sat down there like them. Hmm, it is not so bad with cookies and novels.
このところ体調が悪いので家にいることが多い。外の景色を眺めようとバルコニーに立ってみる。窓台は大抵小物や植木鉢に占拠されているものだが、中にはそこを私的な空間として使っている者がいることを見つけた。同じようにそこに座ってみる。ふむ、クッキーと小説があると悪くない。

Alliance of anti-hibernation

The typical harmful effect of sunny and warm spring days is that night birds turn into normal people. My nocturnal life has been blown away by vernal breeze. Damn, every day I naturally wake up in the morning and get sleepy before midnight.
Frogs with mating calls, predacious insects and snails in gray status - the members of Alliance anti-hibernation around weekend houses were all so active in their political activities and bid me to join the alliance. Meanwhile I met a frog in a torpid state when I plowed up a potato field. The deadish one enduring iausterities was the other figure of the party members and me.
陽が明るく暖かい春の日々の典型的な弊害は、夜型人間を普通の人間にしてしまうことである。春風と共に私の夜行性生活はなくなってしまった。毎日自然に午前中に目を覚まし、夜中になる前に眠くなってしまうなんて。
交尾期の鳴き声を上げる蛙、捕食する昆虫、身分のはっきりしない蝸牛。ウィークエンドハウスの周りにいる反冬眠同盟のメンバー達は、自分達の政治的活動にご熱心で、私にも同盟に加われと勧めてくる。その一方で、ジャガイモ畑を耕している時に冬眠中の蛙に出合った。苦行に耐えるその死んだような奴は、同盟のメンバー達と私のもう一つの姿だった。

Footloose walkers

Ishiko’s new project is to walk around the world. He stays in each city for a week and writes articles for Japanese papers, magazines and blog with his photographs. He has walked in India, Nepal, Finland, Germany, and England and came to Lithuania. The footloose walker is also an art director and discovers art and culture.

I, a night walker, recently have been a day walker, too. We encountered strange objects, graffiti and unique people in Kaunas and Vilnius, and can hardly stop talking about life and art in foreign countries.

The music of Erich Zann

The inside of the 1914 built apartment is an entrance of gloomy creation. Ascending stone spiral stair which twines unused elevator in the center of a darkish hall and absorbing light little by little from the glass roof. Unlock a font door with three keys and play music of Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra in a large old Lithuanian style living room to start the time for imagination with otherworldy nature. Curious visions and melodies come up in my mind and I feel like I am listening to the music of Erich Zann.
１９１４年に建てられたアパートの内側は陰鬱な創造への扉。薄暗いホールの中心にある使われなくなったエレベーターにからまる石造りの螺旋階段を昇り、ガラスの天井から少しずつ光を浴びてゆく。三本の鍵で玄関を開け、古いリトアニア式の大きな居間にLithuania National Symphony Orchestraの曲を流して異世界に根源を持つ想像の時間を始める。不可思議な空想と旋律が気持ちに押し寄せ、Erich Zannの音楽を聴いているような気分になる。

Lens-eyed puppet players

Even a doll can meet the criteria of teaching materials for angles and compositions. I taught my photography class students that they can try various perspectives in still-life photography. We are lens-eyed puppet players who can control both the silent animals and talkative human beings.
一体の人形は、角度と構図の教材としての基準を満たしている。写真教室の生徒達に、静物写真であっても様々な見方を試すことができるのだと教えた。私達は、物言わぬ動物もおしゃべりな人間も操ることができる、レンズの目を持つ人形使いなのだ。

Titanas Gym (http://www.vyrams.lt/) kindly invited me to the event in Vilnius on Sunday and I could take photos from ringside. Lithuanian fighters are very offensive, tough and do not stop rushing. The Japanese opponents were surprised with different fighting style and judges.
Although sports photography is not my major category, my martial art background helps me a lot for sure. Then, what about documentary of fighters?

Titanas Gym（http://www.vyrams.lt/）のご好意で、日曜にVilniusで行われたBUSHIDOに招待されリングサイドで撮影することができた。リトアニアの選手達はとても攻撃的・タフで、ラッシュを止めることがない。対戦相手の日本人選手達が、ファイトスタイルとジャッジの違いに驚いていた。
スポーツ写真は私の主だった範疇ではないが、格闘技経験がかなり役に立っている。では、選手達のドキュメンタリーならどうだろう？

Sanctuary behind the mask

I am having a fuzzy-headed free day at last after the busy days with my exhibition, meeting with new people and my mother. It was a little bit early to for me to get out of bed around 11am. I had a Japanese “home-style” branch and went to akropolis to buy a detergent for bath tab, black pepper, light bulbs, and what else I bought? I cannot concern about any concrete plans with my dull mind so I just think about what I want to do.
I want to come close to nonmaterial sanctuaries of people. Everyone wears mask as self-protection when they face others. Photography is a way for me to unveil and expose the sanctuaries behind the masks. Everything exists in parallel so even personal senses, live and deaths of others.
個展や新しい人々との出会い、母の来訪などで多忙を極めた日々が終わり、ようやく頭がぼんやりしている自由な一日を過ごしている。午前１１時にベッドから起きだしたのは、普段に比べれば少し早い方か。我が家流の和食で朝昼兼用の食事をし、akropolis（大型ショッピングモール）で風呂掃除用洗剤、黒胡椒、電球を買い物し、あとは何を買ったっけ？鈍い頭で具体的な計画なんて思いつかないので、とりあえずやりたいことを考えてみる。
人々の精神の聖域に近づきたい。誰も皆、他人と対峙する時には自己防衛のために仮面を被る。写真は私にとって、その仮面の向こうにある聖域を明らかにしてさらけだす手段である。全てのものは並列に存在している、例えそれが他人の個人的な感覚や生と死であっても。

It was like -12C with snow on Friday night in Vilnius. I was in a park, drinking a bottle of 999 (herbal liquor) and talking about the meanings of adjectives in Japanese and Lithuanian. My brain is away of adjectives now. They are the photos of a party at a club after the study in adjectives. Somebody please think of adjectives for photos instead of me.
金曜の夜、Vilniusは雪でマイナス１２℃ぐらいだった。公園で９９９というハーブ酒のボトルを煽りながら、日本語とリトアニア語の形容詞の意味について話し合っていた。今、私の脳は形容詞から離れている。写真は形容詞の研究の後に訪れた、クラブでのパーティーのもの。誰か私の代わりにこの写真に合う形容詞を考えてください。

“Kensaku Shioya” style photography class has started at the Japanese Culture Center Tsuru (http://www.tsuru.lt/?action=menu&menu_id=1). The first class was a private lesson and it is also very nice for an instructor to have the time concentrated with a student.
Students need to submit a questionnaire about their experience, requirement and necessity in photography before they have the first lesson. I also require some of their favorite photos in the past to verify their style and techniques. I, the instructor, need information of each student as possible to think of syllabus, teaching methods and practical works. Feedback and homework are also important.
Although I agree with criticism by some people that my photography style is without rules like street fighting, I would like to instruct my students photography based on my experience and academic approaches.
「シオヤ流写真教室」、日本文化センター鶴にて開講（http://www.tsuru.lt/?action=menu&menu_id=1）。初回はプライベートレッスンで、このように生徒と集中した時間を持てることは講師にとっても好ましい。
受講開始に先立って生徒は経験や希望、必要性などについてのアンケートを提出する必要がある。生徒のスタイルやテクニックなどを検証するために、私はさらに彼らが過去に撮影したお気に入りの写真も要求する。講師である私は、授業のシラバス（講義内容）、教授法や実習内容を考慮するために、できる限り各生徒の情報を収集する。評価と宿題も重要である。
私の写真スタイルはルール無用のストリートファイトの様だという批評には同意するが、生徒達には私の持つ経験と学術的な方法で写真撮影を教授したいと考えている。

I was invited to a drama “A Midsummer Night's Dream” by Oskaras Korsunovas theatre (http://www.okt.lt/index.php3?lang=l) in the night of February 5th. I went to the National Drama Theater after finished setting up my exhibition. I have read the original piece by William Shakespeare long time ago so I was trying to remember the story while I was watching the play.
The drama was composed of less fairy-tale appearance but essential human environment in much physical action and intelligent expressions by performers. I wish I could understand the language to come up with the highly considered dramatic interpretation.
二月５日の夜にOskaras Korsunovas theatre（http://www.okt.lt/index.php3?lang=l）の招待で「夏の夜の夢」を観劇した。個展の開催準備を終わらせて国立演劇場に向かった。ウィリアム・シェイクスピアの原作は遠い昔に読んでいたので、観劇の最中に記憶を手繰り寄せていた。
劇はおとぎ話のような外見がそれほど見られず、役者達による多量の体の動きと知的な表現で構成されていた。言葉が理解できたらならば、その練りに練られた演出法に追いつけたのにと思う。

At the end of my speech at the opening party I admitted that it was my big pleasure to have the exhibition in Lithuania but it is also a funeral of my old works I made in Japan. Because I am in Lithuania now and do not want to rely on my past works. I said “The past looks same as before but it also changes its meaning so it is must that I create new works in Lithuania.”
リトアニアでの初めての個展「Nakties šešėliai (Nocturnal Shadows)」が二月六日から始まった。足を運んでいただいたお客様方、支援してくださった方々、リトアニア芸術写真家協会など全ての皆様にお礼を申し上げたい。新聞各紙、LIETUVOS RADIJAS（ラジオ局）、TV CHANNEL 5とBernardinai.lt（http://www.bernardinai.lt/index.php?url=articles/73676）からの取材に感謝している。
オープニングパーティーのスピーチの終わりに、個展をリトアニアで開催できたことが大きな喜びであると同時に、これは私にとって日本で撮影した古い写真の葬儀であると認めた。何故なら私は今リトアニアで活動しており、過去の作品に頼ることなどしたくないからだ。最後に言ったこと、それは「過去は以前と同じに見えるがその意味は変化している。だからこそリトアニアで新しい作品を創ることが絶対なのである。」

“Esu laisvas kaip vėjas (I am free like wind)”... I have been with the passages of time and thinking a place the wind lands up when it paused blowing. Everything is transient and the past looks same as before but it also changes its meaning.

In response to request by France I salvaged photos of a rock band I have taken in April 2006. France took me to a club in Takadanobaba, Tokyo and we spent few hours in megavolume. I could hardly listen to the lyrics of the songs and wished to know how they use words.
“The picture is worth a thousand words” but sometimes a picture is not worth a few words and time. It is natural that each way of realization has advantages and disadvantages so a photograph cannot be a catalyst with time like music, movie, dance and performance. And this limit is also a food for thought for creation.
友人のFranceのリクエストに答えて、２００６年４月に撮影したバンドの写真を。彼女に連れられ、高田馬場のライブハウスで大音響の中数時間を過ごした。まともに歌詞が聞き取れず、彼らがどのように言葉を使うのかを知りたかった。
「百聞は一件にしかず」、だが時に一枚の写真はほんのわずかな言葉や時間に劣る。あらゆる具現化の方法に長所と短所があるのは当然のことで、写真は音楽、映画、舞踏、演技のような時間の触媒にはなれない。この限界もまた想像の糧である。

Unromantic breakfast

Although I am a night bird, my most favorite time is when I wake up in the early-morning naturally. I am like a silent bug with an ordered mind lives in a bed and the very private moment is for rumination of dreams, purification of romance and pleasure, and libration of thoughts and passions. Therefore, I am out of any creative activities in the moment and I cannot be bothered to make breakfast.
In recent days I am comfortable with being a morning person. I stayed at my friend’s place in Vilnius and woke up around 6am. However, my appetite instinctually interfered with such precious moment. She also woke up with hunger. Searching foodstuff and cooking at other people’s place is an adrenaline but… the results of unmotivated overtime work were cheese omelet, salad with smoked tuna, yogurt, toasted bread, pears and herb tea.
Breakfast in bed is not romantic for me at all. Moreover, sensation of fullness takes me to dreamland again. Nevertheless, in the edge of abyss, I was imaging the photos of her – appendicular movements, flow of long black hair, marble, petals in the water, lip rouge, needles…
私は夜型人間だが、早朝に自然に目覚めるのが一番好きな時間だ。ベッドに生息する頭のすっきりした物静かな昆虫みたいになり、その内密の時間は夢の反芻、恋愛と快楽の解毒、思考と情熱の均衡のためにある。それ故に一切の創造的な作業から離れ、わざわざ朝食を作ることすらしたくない。
ここ数日は朝型人間でいることが気持ちいい。Vilniusの友人宅に泊まったが午前六時過ぎには目が覚めた。しかしながら、食欲が本能的にそんな貴重な時間の邪魔をする。彼女も空腹で目覚めた。他人の家で食材を探して料理を作るのはドキドキするものではあるが・・・やる気のない時間外労働の結果はチーズオムレツ、鮪の燻製のサラダ、ヨーグルト、トースト、梨にハーブティー。
ベッドでの朝食なんて私にとってはときめかないもの。それどころか満腹感が再び夢の世界に引きずりこもうとする。それでも深淵の縁で彼女の写真を想像していた。四肢の動き、長い黒髪の流れ、大理石、水の中の花弁、針・・・。

Sadistic chemicals

I got my hair cut short on Saturday, I look much younger but my eyes became aggressive. My apartment owners invited me a small party at their place and they served me alcohols, Lithuanian cuisine and a lot homemade apple sweets and hams. They opened an old bottle which was given by their friends about 25 years ago. The ginseng liquor was made in Kesong, Democratic People's Republic of Korea and we talked about logistics in the former Soviet Union. I was happy to taste and given my favorite revitalizer I can hardly obtain here.
I was also given 2kg of protein powder by Marius, the president of Titanas Gym (http://www.vyrams.lt/) as a Christmas present. The white powder also makes me feel brutal. It is must that I start Muay Thai training there as soon as possible.
It is time to say good night to a bottle of tranquilizer which contains silver vine because I prefer sadistic state of mind.
土曜日に髪をバッサリと切った。見た目はより若く見えるが、目は攻撃的になった。アパートの大家さんのホームパーティーに招待され、酒やリトアニア料理、自家製の林檎のお菓子やハムをご馳走になった。せっかくだからと約２５年前に友人からもらったという瓶を開封した。その朝鮮人参酒は朝鮮民主主義人民共和国の開城で造られたもので、旧ソ連時代の流通の話で盛り上がった。ここではまずお目にかかれない、大好きな滋養強壮薬を味わいプレゼントにもらったのでとても嬉しかった。
Titanas Gym　（http://www.vyrams.lt/）の代表Mariusからも、クリスマスプレゼントとして２ｋｇのプロテインパウダーをもらった。この白い粉も獰猛な気持ちにさせる。早くジムでムエタイトレーニングを再開しなければいけない。
サディスティックな心理状態でいたいから、マタタビエキス入りの睡眠薬にはオヤスミナサイと告げる時間。

“I am afraid of losing the lives of my own things even my hair. I am so afraid...”
In the winter of 1995, Mayumi was crying for a dying life she could never save and cursing at her fate. Her waist-length black hair showed her time of pain. She was singing the song every time she looked in to a mirror in a dark bathroom. She could only accept cigarette, canned coffee and I was just like a match flame for her. I remember that I broke our friendship and left her alone with an inhuman behavior when she has been informed a very sad fact.
And now I am the one standing in front of a mirror in my bathroom. Wearing (accessories, hair-style) also means exhaust and it makes us passive unconsciously. I will have my hair cut and my reset and reshape would be completed.
「例え髪の毛でも、私のものの命を失うのが怖いの。本当に怖いの・・・。」
１９９５年の冬、真由美は彼女が救うことの出来ない消えゆく命を想って涙を流し、自分の運命を呪っていた。腰まで伸びた彼女の黒髪が苦痛の時間を証明していた。暗い浴室の鏡を見る度に、真由美はいつもあの歌を唄っていた。受け付けられるのはタバコと缶コーヒーだけで、私は彼女にとってマッチの炎のような存在でしかなかった。真由美が非情な宣告を受けたとき、私は友情を捨て冷酷な態度で彼女を置き去りにしたことを覚えている。
そして今、私が浴室の鏡の前に立っている。（装飾品や髪型を）身にまとうことには消耗の意味もあり、知らぬ間に受身で消極的にさせるようだ。髪を切ることで、再始動と再構築は完了するだろう。

Trapped in limbo

“Nihilistic, empty… I feel like I am a ghost, my mind is out of my body and trapped in limbo in dual-mirror.”
“What do you want now?”
“I guess I want something to fill the emptiness up. What about a blue lizard with a skinned tail? It wants to veil the skinned tail with a lethal fragrance…. like an aconite perfume.”
I have heard a voice of an old lady asking me questions in my restless sleep. Insomnia, anorexia, nihility. I went to a Mass at a church in Vilnius on Wednesday night and was sitting with exhausted tired body and hazy mind. I was an unbaptized outsider but used the time for meditation. In the dark and silence I was facing my emptiness in mind and thought of M who has passed away three month ago and other people I lost. Limbo also means oblivion and the Mass was just for it.
お前の精神は今何色だ？
濃い灰色。
それをどう感じる？
虚無、からっぽ・・・まるで幽霊みたいだ。精神が体から離れて、二重鏡にあるリンボーに堕ちこんでいる。
今何が欲しい？
その空虚を埋める何かだろう。皮を剥がれたしっぽの青蜥蜴はどうかな？そいつはその剥き出しのしっぽを致死の匂いで隠したがっている・・・トリカブトの香水とかでね。
浅い眠りの中で質問してくる老婆の声を聞いた。不眠、食欲不振、虚無感。水曜の夜に疲れきった体ともやがかった精神のままで、Vilniusの教会でのミサに参列した。私は洗礼を受けていないよそ者だったが、その時間を熟慮のために使わせてもらった。暗闇と静寂の中で自分の精神の虚無感、三ヶ月前に亡くなったＭや失った人々に向かい合った。リンボーには忘却の意味もあるが、ミサはまさにそのための時間だった。

Hare of fear

Kristina told me that the hare of a copperplate print is a symbol of fear in Greek mythology. A fearless hare became feared.
The hare is staring at me and I will be looking at myself with similar gazes through lens when I take photos of my emotions tomorrow.
その銅版画の兎はギリシャ神話に出てくる恐怖の象徴なのだ、とKristinaは言った。恐れを知らぬ兎が、恐怖を感じ始める。
兎が私を凝視しているが、明日自分の感情を写真に撮るときに、レンズを通して私も同じような眼差しで自分を見ているだろう。

There opened a "Japanese Culture Center Tsuru" in Kaunas and we had an opening party yesterday. Tsuru (crane) is one of the seasonal words of haiku for winter and I introduced 2 haiku with the word by Sugita Hisajo in my congratulatory speech.
ふり仰ぐ空の青さや鶴渡る
月光に舞ひすむ鶴を軒高く

Undiscovered emotionalism

Targets of my photography are usually for their natural expressions and I do not like fabrications very much except artists. I need abilities of hunters to shoot them quickly so Muay Thai (kick-box) training is also good for practice of this. Recently I started taking classical ballet lessons and understood it is a new practice for photography. I should learn very basic steps and movements as same as Muay Thai but concepts are extremely opposite. I need to synchronize imagination and intelligence with physical moves as self-expression and this is absolutely not required in such martial arts.
As I have confessed, I was not interested in photos as forms of self-expression but started this new style due to my personal reason. The “fresh blood montages” in dreams have gone and too many thoughts and feelings made me insomniac recently. I have been practicing how to project my emotions in photography like an amateurish dancer. The title of this work is decided and that is what I have been thinking a lot everyday. The time of photo session is coming soon.
通常私の写真の標的はその自然な表情であり、芸術家のそれを除いて作り物には大して興味がない。標的を素早く仕留めるためには狩人の才能が必要で、ムエタイのトレーニングはこの点においても効果的である。最近クラッシクバレエのレッスンを始めたが、これは新たなる写真の練習になると理解した。ムエタイと同様に基礎となるステップや動きを身につけなければいけないが、その概念は対極にある。自己表現という形で想像と知性を体の動きに同調させる必要があるが、これはムエタイのような格闘技では全く求められていないことだ。
先日白状したように、自己表現という形の写真には趣をおいていなかったが、私情のためにこの新しい写真のやり方を始めた。夢に出てきた「鮮血のモンタージュ」は去り、うんざりするほどの思考と感覚が最近私を不眠症にさせている。不器用なダンサーのように、いかにして己の感情を写真に投影するかを練習している。既に今回の作品の名前は決めてあるが、それは毎日幾度となく考えていることだ。撮影の日が近づいている。

Chilly church and confetti

I went to Vilnius to take photos of the dance performance on Saturday (http://www.mitaskonceptualiai.lt/EN/). It was chilly inside of the church at a reharsal from 13:00. The performance began at 21:00 and I felt like a dragon slayer and a maiden killer in the sacred place. I can hardly feel the temperature and smell anything when I go hunting.
It started snowing on the way back to Kaunas around midnight and the first snow of this winter looked like a ticker-tape parade in the cold wind.
土曜日はダンスパフォーマンス撮影のため首都Vilniusへ（http://www.mitaskonceptualiai.lt/EN/）。午後１時のリハーサルの時点で教会の中はすでに冷え切っていた。午後９時開演、聖なる場所で龍殺しと乙女殺しの心境。獲物を狩っている最中は温度や匂いを感じない。
Kaunasに戻る真夜中過ぎに雪が降り始め、この冬最初の雪は冷たい風に舞う紙吹雪のパレードのようだった。

Improvisatorial Monday night

SMS, dinner, architects from Moscow, noise-industrial concert, medicinal liquor "999", a self-despair girl, a weak stray cat, constellation Orion, Philip Glass and Bjork, a cup of black tea with much ginger and condensed milk and the end of mind games.
Everythig was improvisingly happened but concluded with settlement in the night of Monday.
ＳＭＳ、ディナー、モスクワから来た建築家、ノイズ系インダストリアルライブ、薬用酒９９９、自暴自棄の女、弱った野良猫、オリオン座、Philip GlassとBjork、大量のショウガとコンデンスミルクの入った紅茶に駆け引きの終焉。
全ては即興で発生したが、落ち着きと共に結末を迎えた月曜の夜。

Lack of Japanese contemporary art

Is recognition of foreign contemporary art in inverse proportion to geographical distance? No! It is because of lackadaisical approach. What kind of Japanese contemporary arts are known in Lithuania? We have Japanimation, films by Takeshi Kitano and some literature works by Haruki Murakami but they are all imported indirectly. There are few Japanese contemporary art activities in Lithuania and it is a shame that Lithuanians have the images of Japan mostly from traditional arts, passé!
I also have been working on some cultural/modern art exchange projects with my Japanese business partners, Ministry of Culture and artists in Lithuania. My Japanese　partner and I traveled a lot and had many meetings and we got progress on the projects last week. We are designed to organize an exhibition with an art performance as one of the programs of “Vilnius – European Capital of Culture 2009”. The exhibition is created by 2 Japanese artists and I believe it will make Lithuanians aware of Japanese contemporary art scene.
地理的な距離と異国の現代芸術の認識は反比例するのだろうか？そんなことはない！それは単に怠慢な扱い方によるものだ。リトアニアで知られている日本の現代芸術と言えば？ジャパニメーション、北野武の映画、村上春樹の文学作品といったところだが、これらは全て間接的に輸入されたものである。リトアニアでは数えるほどしか日本の現代芸術活動がなく、リトアニア人達が日本に対するイメージのほとんどを伝統芸能から得ていることは恥ずかしい。古典だけではやっていられない！
日本のビジネスパートナーやリトアニアの文化省・芸術家達と共同で、文化・現代美術交流プロジェクトも進めている。先週日本人のパートナーと一緒にリトアニア内を何度も旅して話し合いを重ねた結果、プロジェクトの進展に結びついた。「Vilnius – European Capital of Culture 2009」（ＥＵ内の大規模な文化首都事業計画）のプログラムの一つとして、アートパフォーマンスを含めた展示会を行おうと計画している。二人の日本人芸術家による展示作品だが、リトアニア人達の目を日本における現代芸術の現状に向けて開かせるものになると信じている。

Uncheerful awakening

Got up gloomy in the afternoon and windows were clouded over with condensation. I was glad enough with only the noise of rain and shadows of trees in the pale blue sunless sky.
Closed my eyes and head, and I could see some objects were flying in front of the misty window in the blind scene.
沈鬱な気持ちで午後に目を覚ますと、窓は水滴で曇っていた。雨音と陰鬱な青色の空に見える木々の影だけで十分だった。
瞼と思考を閉じると、いくつかの物体が盲目の視界にあるあの曇った窓の前を飛んでいた。

Triune speed

It is a must I figure out my adaptability of speed and performance of my camera to shoot quick-moving targets. Speeds of the dancedrs, shatter-speed of the camera and my reflexes should be united as "trinity".
"You must dance!"
Birute, the Festival Artistic Director of the 17th International Festival Of Modern Dance (http://www.dancefestival.lt/main.php/id/1) sudenly told that I have to start dance training. She did not care I have no dance experiences. It was an uncertain approach for me and I was not seriously motivated even she said there are many beautiful girls at her dance theatre. However,
"Everyone wants to dance when they start dance lesson but they have to do training before dance. It will take time and some give it up. You need your imagination and inteligence when you dance. So it is better someone like you starts dancing."
It was a surprise what the director of a dance theatre said. I will start dance training because I want to know how the traning will support me to see the different speed I have inside.
"We must have an exhibition of your photos, it is bad we do not show the great photos!"

It was my great honor that Audra, the organizer of the dance performance at the ruined church said to me. We will start planning of an exhibition soon. I think of Trinity a litte more but not religiously.
素早く動く被写体を仕留めるためには、自身の速度への順応性とカメラの性能を把握しておくことが絶対に必要だ。ダンサー達の速さ、カメラのシャッタースピードと自身の反射神経が「三位一体」にならなければいけない。
「ダンスをしなさい！」
「17th International Festival Of Modern Dance (http://www.dancefestival.lt/main.php/id/1)」のアートディレクターであるBiruteが、突然私にダンスのトレーニングを始めろと言い出した。私がダンス未経験なんてお構いなし。私にとっては半信半疑の提案だったし、彼女のダンスシアターには美しい女性達がたくさんいると聞いても、やる気にはならなかった。だがしかし、
「ダンスを始めたらみんな踊りたがるけど、まずはトレーニングをやらなくちゃいけない。長い時間がかかるから、それで挫折する人もいる。ダンスには想像力と知性が必要だから、貴方のような人間がダンスを始めるのが望ましいの。」
ダンスシアターのディレクターの、その言葉に驚いた。果たしてそのトレーニングとやらが自分の中にある未知の速度を知るのにどれだけ役立つのか知りたいので、来週からダンスのトレーニングを始めようと思う。
「貴方の写真展をやりましょう、こんな素晴らしい写真を見せないいわけにはいかない！」

廃墟と化した教会でのダンスパフォーマンスの主催者であるAudraが言ってくれたことは、とても名誉なことだった。写真展の計画をすぐに始めよう。宗教的な意味ではなく、「三位一体」についてもう少し考えてみる。

How to spend 1.5 hours

1. Muay Thai (kick-boxing) class
I started Muay Thai training for real at Titanas Gym (http://www.vyrams.lt/). The gym is well known with good professional fighters and some of them have participate in bouts at K-1 and PRIDE BUSHIDO in Japan. I hope they will have more opportunities to visit and fight in Japan. I spent 1.5 hours there and "Man skauda nugara, ranka ir kojak." (I got my back, arms and legs hurt). I think photographers have good agility but stamina in their works so it is a good training for me.
2. Lithuanian language lesson
I also have started Lithuanian language lesson with a private teacher at my place. As an absolute beginner and a certified (Japanese) language teacher with liguistic approach, I think Lithuanian has much difficult pronunciation and flection than Japanese. I spent 1.5 hours and it is almost for exercise in articulation. I do not have to spend many years to learn Lithuanian alphabet but speaking. It is convenient for photographers that we do not need language skill in photography but I need to learn the language for communication and business in Lithuania.
3. Printing photos
And I have just spent 1.5 hours to print photos to update my photo album with samples. This is a fundamental work as a photographer.
１．ムエタイ（キックボクシング）トレーニング
Titanas Gym (http://www.vyrams.lt/)で本格的にムエタイの練習を始めた。このジムは優秀なプロ格闘家を輩出していることで有名であり、日本のK-1やPRIDE BUSHIDOで戦ったことのある選手もいる。彼らがまた日本で試合する機会があればいいと思う。１．５時間練習して"Man skauda nugara, ranka ir kojak" （背中と腕と足が痛い）。思うに写真家は仕事において敏捷性には優れているが持久力がない。だからこれは私にとってとてもいい運動だ。
２．リトアニア語のお勉強
自宅に講師に来てもらって、リトアニア語の勉強も始めた。全くの初心者と資格を持つ（日本語）言語教師の言語的な視点から見て、リトアニア語は日本語よりもはるかに難しい発音と語尾変化を有している。１．５時間の授業ではそのほとんどを発音練習に費やしている。リトアニア文字を覚えるのは簡単だが、話すことには何年も必要だろう。写真において言語技能が必要ないのは写真家にとって好都合だが、リトアニアで交流し仕事をするためには言語を学ぶ必要がある。

そしてサンプル写真のアルバムを新しくするために写真を印刷して１．５時間使ったところ。写真家としては必須の作業。

Comparing to photos by others and thinking what "I could not do at the time" like discovering secret level of my photography. It is a typical attitude in my professional life and this kind of criticism is not necessary in my personal life with something admires me.
Here I have a wizend colour photo copy of "Crystal Mask", a printing by Erte. I remember the very first time I saw the original print when I was eighteen, it was a shock and I could not leave from it for a few hours. I went to a gallery again very next day and bought it even I could hardly afford it. I thought I had to own it or I would not grow into artistic personality in the future. After years, because of very complicated and unexpected reasons, my "Crytal Mask" was taken away from me. I think I was not living artistic at the time and it was a karma I lost it.
It was a coincidence that I found a gellary in Tokyo had a copy of the "Crystal Mask" last week. I asked my mother to contact them and she answered me next day "Your loving lady will be delivered to me tomorrow morning." Although I need to check an edition number of the copy I used to own, it is highly possible that I have got my loving lady back to me.
Even she comes back to me and we will be able to meet in Lithuania it is sure she keeps smiling to me indirectly through her crystal mask. I can accept her style and be happy with it in different points of view I did not have before.

ここに皺だらけのErte作、Crystal Maskのカラーコピーがある。十八歳のときに初めて原画を見たときのことを覚えている、衝撃を受けて数時間そこから離れることができなかった。翌日画廊を再び訪れ、とても手が出せるような金額ではなかったが購入を決めた。手に入れなければ将来芸術的な自分を形成することなどできないと思ったからだ。数年後とても複雑かつ予期せぬ事情で、私のCrystal Maskは私から引き離された。その時には全く芸術的な自分ではなかったので、失ったのも因果応報だと思った。
先週偶然にも東京のある画廊がCrystal Maskを所有していることがわかった。母に連絡してもらうように頼むと、翌日の返事は「貴方の愛した女性は、明日の午前中に家に届くわよ。」。以前所有していた作品の限定番号を確認しなければいけないが、私が愛した女性が帰ってきた可能性が高い。
彼女が帰ってきてリトアニアで会えるとしても、彼女はいつだって水晶の仮面越しに私に微笑みかける。彼女のスタイルを受け入れられるし、かつての自分にはなかった視点で幸福になればいい。
